Ariel teaches Deep Stretch and Yoga Nidra

Deep Stretch, a Yin-based yoga, is a slow moving, intense, and soulful practice. Its aim is to maintain and increase joint mobility and mental acuity and focus, decrease stress and reduce emotional reactivity. Ariel combines wisdom from traditional Yoga, Taoist martial arts stretching, modern exercise physiology, meditation, and psychological science. She brings to her classes unique insights and perspectives, a warm, welcoming demeanor and  16 years of practice and study.

Unlike many other popular forms of Yoga, Deep Stretch uses longer and mostly passive holds. It focuses on the deep, dense connective tissues of the body, which are more difficult to energize and open. This practice also helps teach your mind and body how to relax quickly, even in high-stress situations.

Yoga Nidra, or  “yogic sleep,” is both a practice and a sleep-like,  but conscious, state. It is a form of guided meditation that has been found to reduce tension, stress, and anxiety. Yoga Nidra has been used effectively in VA programs to aid soldiers cope with the debilitating symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Deep Stretch Yoga and Yoga Nidra are both excellent complements to a busy lifestyle and to “Yang” activities like sports, vigorous exercise, and other forms of Yoga.
